Chanel haute couture S/S 2013

A palace, 90 oak trees and more than 3000 thousand bushes can only mean one thing, Chanel haute couture. This is as close to nature as I would have wanted to get! Lagerfeld brought his designs to life at the Grand Palais, by infusing both the natural backdrop of the setting with the contemporary designs for this season. A few British models were in the show like Stella Tenant and one of my favourite models at the moment, Cara Delevigne. I especially loved the monochrome look for this season as well as the smoky eyes and up do looks used in this show.
Chanel's global creative director applied mesh lashes onto the lash lines of the models. To give each model the look of a dark, eerie fairy the smoky effect was emphasised to create the look of a deep black shadow.
International hair stylist Sam McKnight exaggerated the up do for the models giving it an organised yet chaotic feel.
This season, Chanel played it big with textures using lace, silk and cotton.

Exam #1 DONE!!

This morning I had my english a2 level exam. Needless to say I was nervous. A quick skim over my notes for an hour at 7am this morning especially the first couple of scenes, and what scene came up in the exam and what scene came up in the exam i hear you cry..... ACT ONE SCENE ONE!! I felt like singing Oh Happy Day.. as it was a two hour exam split between two essays I spent the first hour doing the King Lear essay and the second hour was a compare and contrast between two texts, one of which came up in class a few months ago and we did for homework! I don't want to tempt fate but I hope they went ok :)

Hope you all had a fantastic monday! A. x

Exam #1

Hello there, how are you?!

12 hours time from writing this blog so half nine on tuesday 22nd  January I will have started my english a2 exam. ARGH! I have done quite a bit of revision but the night before it never feels like enough and quite frankly I am nervous. English was always my strong point throughout lower school and I always spend a lot of time reading books. But my exam tomorrow is split into two. One side is about Shakespeare's play King Lear and we've had to get used to the play as a passage from it will come up and we've got to figure out where its from.. we aren't allowed to take the book into the exam either. The other half is unseen texts so we'll be given two different extracts and we'll have to write an essay analysing and comparing them to each other! All within the space of two hours, wish me luck!

Thick hair

If like me, you have quite thick hair and instead of seeing this in the mirror every morning...
But instead you see a giant mop of thick hair like this here below....

Then I may have found some tips and solutions to help you maintain the look and hairstyle you want, whilst having lovely and thick hair.

Managing thick hair!
Get a good hair cut. It may seem really obvious but its true. A good majority of the time I go to the hairdressers, they comment on the thickness of my hair and always ask a few times whether or not I want it thinned any with more layers. Don't be afraid to tell the hairdresser what you like or especially want done, after all they are the ones who can help you with it.If you don't like the thickness of your hair you can always ask them to think your hair for you, by either using a pair of thinning scissors or by chopping into the hair a lot. Which may sound horrendous but will leave your hair looking lovely and feeling lighter.

Don't be afraid to experiment with colour
Having thick hair means that your hair will tend to be quite strong, so if you want to try different hair colours, highlights and other hair colouring treatments your hair won't look as brittle and course in the long run, compared to much finer hair.

Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo doesn't have to be left at festivals, I find that with my hair I can get away with just using dry shampoo come day three of not washing my hair and it'll still look shiny.

Drying
I don't know whether this is down to me personally, or it may work for other people with thick hair but when I've washed my hair I don't tend to blowdry it straightaway as it then makes it big and hard to manage when I want to tie it up. Sometimes I leave it complete to air dry or even wait an hour so its a little bit dry and then do the rest, I think this makes it appear silkier, but it may just be me.

Straightening
I straighten my hair everyday. I do use heat protective sprays but still. Everytime I tell a hairdresser that they gasp like I've committed a horrendous crime, to them I may have, but to me this has become more of a way of life (no joke it genuinely has) I think it makes my hair look a lot nicer than it would naturally as it looks more sleek and pretty in my opinion.

Say bye to your conditioner
A hairdresser told me that conditioner tends to leave build up on your hair, making it feel heavier and appear a little greasy. I either just use a shampoo and occasionally conditioner on just the ends of my hair. Or sometimes I use a good leave in conditioner.

To keep thick hair looking shiny and healthy here are a few tips:
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables to provide your body with plenty of nutrients.
  • Eat healthy fats like omega 3 fatty acids found in nuts, shellfish, tuna and flax seed for example.
  • Wash your hair with a good, gentle shampoo and/or conditioner.
  • Some people find that washing their hair with warm, not hot water could stop breakages and split ends.
  • Exercise, healthy body, healthy mind and all!
  • Don't trim your hair yourself as this can cause breakages.
I hope this helps in some way, thanks for reading, A x

13th January 2013

I meant to post this blog early this week but I've had so much revision to do for my psychology and English exams it took a backseat for a while. Anyway, last Sunday I went into Bournemouth, a lovely little beachy town on the south coast. The point of the trip was to hopefully sort out some birthday presents for both myself and my mum (our birthdays are on January 27th, and yeah we share a birthday) The shopping trip wasn't the best, almost a week til the big day and I'm still unsure on what I want. Although I did sort things out for Mum though woo! It was such a lovely and clear day last week, albeit bitterly cold!

Viktor and Rolf -Flowerbomb

Hellooo all, hope you're all well! I meant to do this blog a while ago but other things caught up with me. For Christmas I got some Viktor and Rolf perfume, Flowerbomb its called. I am so thankful of my parents for getting it for me, even though its quite a small bottle it wasn't cheap for the size! The box it came in has a big black stamp type of thing on the front  with V&R printed into it,which I think makes it look really special and unique. The bottle has a little pin with V&R on it, making it look like a grenade, As you can see in the pictures below..

What I really like about this perfume that really, only one spritz is necessary for the day. It has quite strong floral notes so a little spray will go a long way. Yet its not too strong that it becomes overpowering, but then again I use only very small amounts, and don't feel the need to reapply throughout the day. I think this perfume has a rather classy scent as its sweet smelling but with slight musky undertones,  Flowerbomb is relatively expensive compared to other perfumes on the market but I think if you wouldn't mind splashing the cash on a perfume then I'd completely recommend it!

SNOW!

The way I act every year, you'd think I've never seen snow before. But is there anything more exciting than seeing this when you wake up in the morning ahead of a busy day to find out the weather is too bad for anything to go ahead.  wooo!

So here I am snuggled up in an elephant onesie, revising for my exams next week, in front of the fire with cup of tea. Bliss!

Hope you all had a top notch week, and had plenty of fun enjoying the snow today(if you had any)

Lots of love,A x
