Nails of the day

To accompany the primark shirt, skater skirt combo I chose a bold nail colour to go alongside it. I don't know about you guys, but I always have my nails painted and they feel a little naked when there isn't nail polish on them!

Primark shirt!

Hey everyone! How are you all?
I've seen this alphabet shirt floating about on a lot of people's blogs and I saw it in Primark for about £12ish I can't remember of the top of my head but it was around that price. ANYWAY back to the point of this post, I wore said shirt today to sixth form with a skater skirt and a cosy knit cardigan. My friend Tarryn asked if it was from Urban Outfitters and my other friend Fraser asked if it was from Topshop. Made. My. Day.

Morning all!

I have work today from 10 til 4 and i'm really not feeling it. Usually I don't mind as I get along well with the people i work with, but already I feel quite tired and rough despite having quite a long sleep. Ah well when I get home i'm going to bake some cupcakes and watch Skyfall. What are you all up to today?

Liebster Award!!

A few days ago the lovely Isobel (http://lashingsoflipstick.blogspot.co.uk/ )  nominated me for a Liebster Award. I've seen this on a few other people's blogs and it probably sounds crazy/cringy but this actually meant so much to me. It means a lot that people actually read what I write and follow my blog as I've wanted to do something like this for ages. So basically I'm saying a little thank you to you all. 




The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers with less than 200 followers, Liebster is a word in German that means kindest.

11 facts about me!

1. My name is Abbie Tanner and I am 18 years old.
2. My birthday is the 27th of January and I am born on my Mum's birthday as well.
3. My favourite animals are elephants.
4. I want to travel the world, so far I have been to Crete twice, Italy, Madeira, Portugal and Malta. 
5. I have one sister who is two years older than me,she is called Bronya.
6. When I was younger my favourite band was s club 7 and I still know all the words to Don't stop Movin'.. I'm too cool right? haha!
7. I have an obsession with reality tv shows, you name it, I'll be watching it.
8. I love chinese food.
9. I believe in the power of magpies.
10. I have an elephant onesie and it is the comfiest thing you'll ever put on.
11. H&M is probably my favourite high street shop. I think about 70% of my wardrobe is from there.

Who is your favourite youtuber? For make up tutorials I'd have to say Tanya Burr. But for comedy reasons either GloZell or Jenna Marbles. 

What inspired you to start your blog and when did you start blogging? 

I don't think I had a direct inspiration, I've watched dozens of make up and other beauty tutorials on youtube for years and I could never pluck up the courage to do vlogs, so I think I decided to do a blog to post what I was thinking or feeling, so hopefully people would like it and read it! And I think I made the blog in July but couldn't think of a name and then Pride and Pedicure was a suggestion by my friend Ellie , mid phonecall, as I love reading so much. So I officially started blogging in September 2012.

What is/was your favourite subject at school and why?

In lower school I absolutely loved French. Especially in years 10 and 11 when I was aged 15/16. I really enjoyed learning another language and I think the fact that I got on well with my teacher Mrs Thompson helped and it improved my grade massively. I found that when you actually like your teacher you are more inclined to want to work harder in those lessons as well which i did.  I was predicted a B or an A but unfortunately I got a C in my GCSE for it which isn't bad, its a pass but for the sixth form I go to, you need a B to do it. I think if I got a B or an A for my french I would have definitely have done it within my A levels. But I do still see my french teacher from time to time and she always stops to have a chat, which is nice! 

Currently at sixth form I would say my favourite subject would be English, again because I get on well with both my teachers but mainly because I love reading.

What do you want to achieve by blogging?

Um.. I want people to read what I write and like it mainly. No one sets out to write aimlessly for no reason. I love knowing that I have a tiny, tiny slice of the internet and that someone is reading what I've got to say. 

What is your best beauty buy which was under £5?

Either BarryM lip paints or their nail varnishes.

What is your favourite meal?

oooh its a toughie between a chinese, I'm talking sweet and sour chicken hong kong style, seaweed, sesame toast, prawn crackers.. the works! Or some nice, home cooked comfort food like toad in the hole with a load of gravy.

Do you know/have any make up dupes? 

Um.. well i find that its easier to apply mascara by shutting one eye and pulling it taut, so putting one finger by the side and pulling the skin back it makes it easier to apply mascara. I find that sometimes the lashes look a little longer too as you can see what you're doing. Try it and see!

Which book are you currently reading,or what was the last book you read?

Right now I am reading The Beautiful and The Damned by F.Scott Fitzgerald. And the last book I read other than King Lear for my english exam was Extremely Loud and Incredibly close which is fantastic,I'd recommend it!

What is an essential clothing item that everyone should have in their wardrobes? 

I think everyone should own a good pair of jeans that are comfy, flattering look good.

What is a film that you have seen loads of times but still love it? 

I have a tendency of watching films over and over again, but I'd have to say either A Cinderalla Story or Grease.

What is your favourite quote?

Brits 2013 best and worst dressed.. In my opinion

Watching The Brit Awards tonight and here are some of my favourite outfits of the evening. 

The good

I love Aluna Francis' sheer sequin gown teamed with metallic louboutins as well! With grungy, smokey eyes she looks like she owns the red carpet. LOVE!


I'm never usually a fan of what Taylor swift wears or her music, although here I really like what she is wearing. The gold jewellery really compliment the black dress and the sheer panels make it look really edgy and cool. 




Jessie J looks fab here. Like Taylor Swift, she's wearing a sleek, black dress, accentuating her assets. With minimal make up I think she looks great!



As usual, Laura Whitmore looks great! Wearing a metallic minidress, nude pointed heels and gold jewellery to match. She's also a bronze smokey eye. Super cool outfit, she looks every inch the ultra-cool fashionista!



One Direction are all looking very dapper this evening, as usual they all suited and booted, only a few minor things boys, firstly Liam ditch that butterfly brooch, Zayn why the ribbon? Also Niall perhaps you should have left the Vans at home on this occasion, other than that, smiles all round from me!

The bad


Usually Little Mix's style is quite urban and looks different but I find their outfits here are all too different and clash a little. 


Don't get me wrong, I love Lana Del Rey as much as the next person, I just think that she looks a little too understated here. With the little kitten heels and a simple black dress I feel that she would have looked a lot better in a longer dress maybe. 


Ashley Roberts won us over in I'm a Celeb last year. I feel that there is too much going on with Ashley's outfit here, showing a lot of skin with her legs out/sheer skirt combo, the messy top knot and the gold jewellery. Not for me, I'm afraid!


Caroline Flack overcame her food poisoning in order to make it to the Brits, I do quite like what she is wearing although the cape like bit on the back lets it down in my opinion. I loved the navy dress and nude shoes combo though! 

The Ugly

Gemma Arteton may be one of the most naturally pretty celebs, but she hasn't half hit a bum note with this outfit here. First of all when has a red sequined cardigan ever been a good idea? but then wearing green shoes to match this as well? Oh dear..I bet this was a bit scratchy too.

Not many seem to like Rita Ora's style, but I think there always seems to be something fun and different about what she is wearing, no matter how eclectic it may seem! However, this outfit is an exception. It looks as if it has ripped seams, too much excess material at the back too and I don't think it suited her at all. 


You can usually rely on Katherine Jenkins to go to an event like the Brits in a beautiful floor length gown, I don't like the outfit she wore to the Brits at all.  This print dress does nothing for her shape whatsoever. She wore this alongside a pair of aquamarine Charlotte Olympia heels. 


I'm not a fan of Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe's dress from this evening. If you look at it quickly you could mistake it for tin foil. However I do like the smokey eyes and nude shade lips.

I've got the blues..

I don't really know what to say, I'm really bored of everything right now from, work, sixth form, the weather especially. A lot of people I know are going away this week to somewhere exciting and hot, and I would absolutely love it if my mum booked a surpise getaway! I don't know about you guys, but I could really do with a break right now. It would do me the world of good.

I'm thinking a fortnight In Mauritius would be great, what about you guys?

What i'm listening to right now

A few homemade face masks to try!

Banana face mask
Especially effective for oily skin types

To make the face mask you will need:

1 Banana, preferably ripened

2 tablespoons of honey

An orange or a lemon (I prefer lemon)

First mash up the banana and then mix in the honey. To have the best results blend the ingredients. Then add a few drops of juice from a lemon or an orange. Apply to your face for a maximum of 15 minutes, wash off when done with warm water then apply moisturizer as  you would normally. 

Aspirin and lemon juice mask

Especially good for acne

To make the mask you will need:

3-6 aspirin

1 lemon

Baking soda

1 cup/glass or something similar to crush the aspirin up in

Warm honey or a natural oil like coconut, olive or almond

Shallow dish

Crush the aspirin into small pieces and place in the dish. Squeeze the lemon juice on top so the aspirin starts to dissolve, forming a paste. If you have quite dry skin add the honey or oil now, but if you have a more oily skin tone skip that part and perhaps add more drops of lemon juice instead. Apply to your face, once the mask has dried, with a wet flannel/cloth which has been dipped in baking soda.

Strawberry, honey and brown sugar mask

Also good for acne sufferers.

To make the mask you will need:

6 fresh strawberries

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

De-stem the strawberries then cut them up into small pieces. Create a pulp/mush from the strawberries by mashing them up together.  Then add  the lemon juice, brown sugar and honey. Stir until combined. If you want you could add more of any of the ingredients to create a consistency you like. Apply to your face for 10 minutes and remove with a warm wet washcloth.

Avocado and lemon mask

To make the mask you will need:

1 Avocado

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

1 teaspoon of avocado oil

cornstarch if needed

Firstly, carefully peel the avocado and pit it. Puree the avocado whilst stirring in the the lemon juice and avocado oil. If at this point the mixture is too runny then add in some cornstarch. Spread the mask on your face, carefully avoiding the eye area. Leave for 15-20 mins and then wash off with warm water. 

A face mask for sensitive skin

Soften a tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add a small handful of rolled porridge oats and a tablespoon of  some natural yoghurt. Blend together until fairly smooth. Apply to face. wait for 15-20 mins and then wash off with some warm water. Using butter on your face may seem a little strange, but butter is actually a really good source of vitamin A and can help rejuvenate the skin, whilst porridge oats will calm your skin and the natural yoghurt will be very soothing. 

Cucumber and yoghurt face mask
Use about a third of a cucumber and puree it. Then pop it into a blender along with a heaped tablespoon of yoghurt, once fully blended apply to your face for about 15 mins then wash off with warm water.
